CheapCarInsuranceinc.com Rating:
The Allied Car Insurance Company dates back to 1929 when it was originally founded by Harold Evans. It operated independently and grew into its own successful Automobile insurance provider over the course of many decades. In 1998, however, Allied made the decision to join forces with Hartford insurance in order to be “on your side” for their customers.
Today, there are still areas in the US where Allied goes by its old name. But their online presence is incorporating and accepting the Hartford logo and business motto. However, because the company might go by one name in one state and its other name in a different one, it’s important to make sure you find out which company is operating near you so that you can get the best deal on your policy.
Allied and Hartford are performing very well together as a company, and they’ve been doing so for many years. Hartford has earned A+ “superior” ratings for their financial strength and stability for many years, and their rating with the BBB has actually increased from an “A” to “A+” recently. They are also ranked above average as far as the NAIC complaint index is concerned.
Metric | Rating |
AM Best Financial Strength Rating (2016) | A+ |
Better Business Bureau Rating (2016) | A+ |
NAIC Complaint Index (2012) | 0.64 (Better than Average) |
It’s likely that the discounts available from Allied and Hartford will vary from state to state – they may even vary from one zip code to another. But regardless of which company your policy is with, you can look forward to some of the following discounts:

Multi-Policy Discount | Carry more than one policy with Allied at the same time (including Home, Life, Auto, and more) |
Accident-Free Discount | Each accident-free year on your driving record can qualify you for a discount |

Other popular discounts, such as family plans, accident forgiveness, or a SmartRide discount may or may not be available in your specific area. You should make sure to ask your insurance agent if you are eligible for any discounts, and how big of a discount you are entitled to.
Like most Automobile insurance companies, Allied is more than happy to offer you the standards such as Liability, Comprehensive/Collision, Uninsured/Underinsured, and more. But they also offer:
Because Allied operates in different states, and because it sometimes goes by the name of its partner company, Hartford, it’s best to make sure you compare as many quotes as possible in order to get the best rate near you.
Like many standard insurance companies, Allied enjoys giving lower rates to good drivers with good credit who are homeowners (and may potentially bundle those policies). Likewise, deviating from that norm – whether it’s poor credit, renting instead of forking out a mortgage, or having some minor violations on your record – may result in the rate hikes you see above.
Pro | Con |
High ratings both in financial strength and customer service | Might not get the same level of coverage and customer service in all areas |
Recent partnership with Hartford increases their coverage area and availability | Not knowing which company you’re dealing with might cause confusion during the claims process |
Hartford and Allied have become a large and very popular automobile insurance company in recent years. They have also implemented many different coverage options, such as Accident Forgiveness and Vanishing Deductible, that have made them highly competitive in their market. However, drivers who have imperfect driving records or poor credit might want to be careful and compare Allied to multiple other companies to make sure they are getting the most affordable premium available.
