CheapCarInsuranceinc.com Rating:
Infinity is an auto insurance company which also offers a variety of different insurance products (including commercial insurance, homeowner’s insurance, boat insurance, and more) to drivers within the states of Texas, California, Florida, and Arizona. The company itself sells their products through a network of independent agents. They specialize in helping those who may have some blemishes on their driving record and, because of this history, have a hard time finding affordable coverage. As far as the company’s financial strength is concerned, they are fairly strong in that category according to ratings agency AM Best. They have earned an A rating, which means that they are considered “stable”. Their customer service reviews, however, are less than stellar. They have less than 2 stars on Credit Karma, a high NAIC complaint ratio, and although the BBB has given them an A rating, it includes over 450 complaints that have been filed against them in the last 5 years.
Ratings Agency | Rating |
A.M. Best (2016) | A |
NAIC Complaint Ratio | 2.73 |
Better Business Bureau (2016) | A |
Credit Karma Customer Reviews | 1.3/5 Stars |
Keep in mind when you take a look at the table below that the four states Infinity operates in are all very different from one another. Because of this, laws will vary from one state to the next. Not all discounts may be available in all areas, and the discounts that are available might not be the same that you see here:
Discount Type* | Maximum % Savings |
Advanced Quote | up to 2% |
EFT | up to 2% |
Homeowners | up to 5 – 10% |
Mobile Homeowners | up to 4 – 5% |
Multi-Car | up to 38% |
Paid-In-Full | up to 15% |
Switch & Save | up to 15% |
Additionally, unlike some of their competitors, Infinity charges a laundry list of fees depending on your situation. The following fees can cost anywhere from $9-$25 per fee, and if you get hit with more than one, that extra expense can add up fast:
Infinity sells three different types of coverage packages: Economy, Standard, and Deluxe. In the chart below, you can get a sense of what each policy entails, and whether or not it can meet your needs. It can also help you have questions prepared if you need any of the details below to be clarified by an Infinity agent:
Feature | Covered Person | Liability Coverage | Physical Damage Coverage (when applicable) | Additional or Replacement Vehicle |
Economy | Named insured and their spouse | Only the insured vehicle(s) | Total costs of repairs made at an RSVP auto repair shop | 20 days automatic liability & physical damage coverage |
Standard | Named insured and their spouse, residents, relatives, non-resident drivers | Non-owned, rental, and temporary substitute vehicles | Rental vehicle used a temporary substitute for a covered vehicle | 30 days automatic liability & physical damage coverage |
Deluxe | Named insured and their spouse, residents, relatives, non-resident drivers using the covered vehicle with the named insured’s permission | Non-owned, rental, and temporary substitute vehicles | Non-owned, rental, and temporary substitute vehicles | 30 days automatic liability & physical damage coverage |
Getting multiple quotes from multiple companies is important when you’re looking for insurance coverage. Another important detail, though, is being able to examine how your insurance company determines rates for different types of risk:
The chart above is interesting for an insurance company whose business model is designed to provide “high-risk” drivers with affordable coverage. The cheapest rates are going to older, married homeowners who have good credit and little or no accident history. To be fair, though, someone with significant accident violations is still getting lower rates than Teenage motorists and motorists with poor credit.
Pro | Con |
Provides non-standard insurance to those who need it | Only underwrites insurance policies in a few states |
Tiered policy options give drivers affordable choices | Seems confusing for customers to get the company to pay out on claims |
Infinity Driver Club: an affordable Hartford roadside service program | Charges multiple fees that most companies don’t charge for |
The financial strength of Infinity, along with their simple coverage options, self-professed dedication to their customers, and a Hartford roadside assistance program which they make available to all their auto customers for free. However, they do have a rocky history as far as unhappy customer complaints go. And while some high-risk drivers can find savings with Infinity (specifically, drivers with multiple tickets or significant accidents in their past), other “high-risk” groups – such as younger motorists and drivers with poor credit scores – could still end up forking out some pretty high monthly premiums.
