CheapCarInsuranceinc.com Rating:
New Jersey Skylands is a full-service property-casualty insurance association servicing drivers and property owners in the state of New Jersey exclusively. Customers who purchase an insurance policy through New Jersey Skylands (NJS) also become stakeholders in the company. This elite status entitles NJS customers to special benefits and features that most insured drivers may not have access to with other companies. In addition to Automobile insurance, NJS offers its customers insurance products for protecting their home, watercraft(s), jewelry, artwork, and more.It appears as though NJS has some pretty strong ratings as far as financial strength and customer service are concerned. They have a fairly low ratio of complaints in general, and they’ve earned an A+ from the BBB. Strangely, they don’t have a rating from AM Best, which is one of the most popular and reliable financial strength ratings agencies in the country. They do, however, have a favorable rating from a little-known ratings agency called Demotech, Inc.
Ratings Agency | Rating |
AM Best Financial Rating (2016) | Not Rated |
Better Business Bureau (2016) | A+ |
Complaint Ratio per Vehicle (NJ, 2012) | 0 / 28,806 |
NAIC Complaint Index (2012) | 0.28 (Better than Average) |
Demotech, Inc. (2016) | A (Exceptional) |
If NJS does offer their customers any discounts with their Automobile coverage, they don’t exactly advertise it publicly. Many insurance companies do offer discounts in order to encourage new business or to discourage old business from leaving for another provider. If NJS does not offer discounts, it may be because they feel their rates are competitive enough to not require discounts.
But one thing that NJS offers its clients is additional member benefit services. In particular, they are known for their credit monitoring services. In this day and age, identity theft is a cause for concern for most Americans. If it’s especially worrisome for you, then having an Automobile insurance policy which also offers a credit monitoring service might be an attractive deal.
NJS offers coverage to their customers in two different classifications: basic coverage, and standard coverage. Basic coverage includes everything a driver needs in order to legally operate a motor vehicle within the state of New Jersey:
Of course, if you would like more than just the basic coverage required for legal driving, you have the option to purchase more. NJS refers to this extra coverage as “standard” coverage, and the options you can purchase include:
It appears as though New Jersey Skylands does offer some pretty competitive rates, even without explicitly advertising any discounts on their website. Based on the data in the chart below, you can get an idea for what you might expect to be charged if you request a quote from NJS:
Strangely, the monthly premiums for a young female driver under the age of 25 are the lowest estimates quoted above (unless you estimate that the married couple is probably forking out around $59-60/mo each for their bundled policy). Because men are often riskier drivers and file claims more frequently, and because Teenage motorists have accidents more frequently and therefore file claims more frequently, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that their estimated monthly premiums are the highest in the chart.

New Jersey Skylands seems like a pretty decent insurance option for those motorists living in the state of New Jersey. They offer competitive rates, comprehensive policies, and additional member benefits that customers might not find from other insurance providers. However, their customer service record isn’t perfect, and it’s hard to know their true financial strength since they have not requested any ratings from nationally known ratings agencies such as AM Best. Another big disadvantage is that NJS services are only available to New Jersey residents. But if you think they might be the company for you, be sure to compare their quotes to multiple other competing providers near you. This will help make sure you get the best deal.
